Kokeshi are Japanese artistic dolls, originally from the northern Japan for about 300 years ago.

The dolls are handmade, usually carved in cherry wood. They are always very simple in its design with a fairly large head and a few thin, painted lines to define the face. One characteristic of Kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs. The bottom is always signed by the artist.

They are very popular and has collectors all over the world.
