Coming of Age Day
Coming of Age Day, Seijin no Hi, is a Japanese holiday held annually on the second Monday of January. It is held in order to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached the age of majority 20 years old over the past year, and to help them realize that they have become adults. Festivities include coming of age ceremonies, seijin-shiki, held at local and prefectural offices, as well as after-parties amongst family and friends.

I like this! But I have one question: why does the woman with the black and white kimono has dolls on her head and on her back?

Gorgeous outfit. Absolutely beautiful.
This is smart. Think of how much easier it would be to teach our kids to be responsible adults if we celebrated the onset of adulthood like the Japanese do. I’m just saying.

I have to say, your blog is so beautiful and full of color and cultural remarks. It was one of the best blogs I’ve visited today. Keep up the good work.
We have nothing like this in the States. What a beautiful tradition!
Very pretty!
Beautiful post and great pics! I love Japanese culture and I’m fascinated by Miyazaki movies, you too?
Just found this blog and I’m very impressed! Thanks for this post! I really like it very much, especially the pictures of kimonos. I have a strong interest in Japanese culture and want to find out more about how they have been successful at combining their traditions with modernity. These young people are quite fashionable and a few years ago the girls’ hairstyle is not like this. So fantastic, with barbies!
The kimono is a very beautiful traditional dress, and the fabric designs are so exquisite!
Love the pictures here. Thanks for sharing.
